The Postern Gate was JD Wetherspoons first pub in York (very shortly followed by them taking over The Punchbowl on Blossom Street). The Postern Gate is in the same building as the Travelodge hotel, which was designed to fit in with the near-by city walls -- unfortunately the pub has a luminous blue sign! The pub itself is very large with a long bar which offers the usual good range of beers and bargin prices expected from a Wetherspoons pub. Although the choice is large, the quality can sometimes be lacking. They also serve fair-quality cheap food and have a family area to the pub. As with other Wetherspoons pubs, there's no music. This pub gets busy most nights of the week.
